There are environmental and landscape features characterising and distinguishing the different Park “stations”, "homogenous territorial areas" as they have been defined by the establishment Law. Their common denominator is water, even if with different salinity levels, which has created wonderful natural environments. And from water, next to water, during the centuries all the human activities linked to fishing, agricolture, tradition, culture and art, have developed.

The extraordinary presence of birds, with more than 300 nesting, wintering or passing species, and some mammals, like the “deer of the dunes” in Bosco della Mesola, represents a valuable fauna heritage. In the same way, all the “green” elements of the Park, such as plain or hygrophilous woods, pinewoods and dunes, represent the Po Delta flora heritage.

The Park encloses many of the extraordinary environmental, artistic, and naturalistic elements which are typical of the area surrounding the Po Delta. A historical Delta, but also the very active current Delta.
